Kaifeng Yanqing Taoist Temple, Yanqing Guan

The Yanqing Taoist Temple was built in 1233,the fifth year of the regin of Emperor Taizong of the Yuan Dynasty for the commem-oration of Wang Zhe,founder of the Chuan-chen Taoism.The only structure remaining today is the Jade Emperor Hall,which is 13 meters tall.The architectural style of the temple is of mixing Mongolian tent with Chinese temple,looks like a round cover on square foundation.

Kaifeng Kaifeng Museum, Kaifeng Bowuguan

The Kaifeng Museum covering 16000 square meters.It is one of the big scale museums of Henan Province with the brilliant buildings. The seven exhibition halls containing the art of Ancient and Modern China,Revolutionary History of Kaifeng, Arts and Crafts of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Collection of Relics of Jewish Diaspora In Ancient China. The museum collection has a total area of more than 20000 relics and 30000 historical and specialized books, making it not only an important place to study history but also to visit.

Kaifeng the Tianbo Hall for The Marshal Yang, Tianbo Yangfu

According to the historical record, Marshal Yang’s Mansion was the house of Yangye, who was the famous general fighting against Liao evasion, and it was named for its location at the riverside of Jinshui to Tiaobo Gate in the northwest of the Capital. In order to show respects to all the Yang family’s loyal achievements to the empire, Emperor  Taizong of Song Dynasty once ordered all officials must be off wagons or horses and walk on foot when passing by this Mansion. After Yangyie death, the Hall was renamed as Xiaoyan Temple as Yang’s family shrine. The temple was ruined completely in the anti-Japanese war after many times destruction. The main building of the Hall is the Center Court. The West court is an elegant garden consisting of pavilions, rockery and brooks. The East Court is the field for Yang’s army exercise,consisting of Order Platform, General Flag and stable. The General Yang’s Mansion is balanced laid out and is grand and full of dignified atmosphere.

Kaifeng Zhuxian Town, Zhuxian Zhen

Zhuxian Town is located 20 kilometers south of Kaifeng in Henan Province. It was said that this was the native place of Zhu He during the Warring States.

Zhu He lived in the immortal village, hence the name. Zhuxian Town’s heyday was during the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty.

The entire town area was 25 square kilometers at that time and the population was more than 200 thousands, with more than 40,000 households.
The streets in the town the streets are crisscrossed and general merchandise gathered.

Jialu River divides the entire town into the East Town and the West Town. The East Town was an important city street during both the Ming and the Qing Dynasties. After Qianlong year, the town suffered from flood repeatedly because the Yellow River overflowed.

The topography in the East Town is lower and most of the merchants moved from the East Town to the West Town. The Zhuxian Town’s lunar new year painting wood engraving is one of the four biggest wood engraving in the country.

Kaifeng Puyang Yuecun County Northeastern Village, Puyangshi Yuecunxiang Dongbeizhuang

Puyang Yuecun County Northeastern Village is labeled as China Acrobatics Township by the China Acrobatics Association.

Presently, Dongbeizhuang village has more than 2,700 populations, out of which more than 410 people are engaged in acrobatics.

Dongbeizhuang village acrobatics emerged at the end of Yuan Dynasty and beginning of Qing Dynasty.

Kaifeng Yanbo Platform

Yanbo Platform is located 1.5 kilometers southwest from Ancient Shangqiu Town. It is the tomb of the Primogenitor of the Shang Dynasty’s son Yanbo. The platform’s girth is 270 meters and height is 35 meters. There are palace, wing room, Zen Room, Bell and Drum towers on it, most of these ancient buildings were made of grey bricks. In every Lunar January, there will be a grand temple fair here.

Kaifeng Ancient Shangqiu Town

Ancient Shangqiu Town was built in the 6th year Emperor Zhende of Ming Dynasty (in 1511 AD). It forms a round shape outside and a square shape inside, and presents a shape as ancient bronze coins. The four sides of the town are walls erected by bricks basically under well protection. The perimeter of the city wall is 4355 meters with a height of 6.6 meters, the battlement is 1.6 meters, the base width of the wall is 10 meters, there are 4 corner terraces several kilometers projecting to the outside of the walls.
Today Shangqiu town, though it went through dozen of warfare of the peasants uprising in late Ming Dynasty, Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, but it still stands on the land of east Henan perfectly, it’s an ancient town rarely to be seen now with well protection in the country.

Kaifeng Taiqing Palace

Located in Taiqing village east of county of Luyi, the hometown of Li Er, 90 km to Zhoukou City. Taiqing Palace was first built in the 8th year Emperor Yanxi in Eastern Han Dynasty (in 165 AD), at that time, its scale was small. Up to the early Tang Dynasty, the dynasty of Li’s family worshipped the thought of Li Er, also Li Er had the same surname as royal court, so Li Er was worshipped as the founder of Taoism, and the Taiqing Palace was expanded in construction in a large scale, later Li Er was conferred many honorary titles by the Tang Court, actually Taiqing Palace become the temple of Tang Royal Family. At the late years of Tang Dynasty, the Taiqing Palace was destroyed by the peasant uprising army headed by Huang Chao. Though it was rebuilt in the coming dynasties, but its scale is not as large as the former one.

Kaifeng Taihao Tomb, Taihao Ling

Located to the Caihe River bank north of Huaiyang county 25 km away from the east of Zhoukou. Tai Hao, as known as Fuxishi, he was one of the three well-known emperors (the top ruler in ancient time) in China based on legendary tale, the earliest ancestor in Chinese mythical tales, he made a great contribution for the development of Chinese ancient civilization. Taihao Tomb was first built in the Period of Spring and Autumn, the temple was built in Han Dynasty. In 630 AD of Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, the Emperor of Tang Dynasty, issued an imperial order to send guards to protect the tomb. Later, due the Yellow River changed its river course, the Taihao Tomb was submerged by flood. In the Zhengtong 13th year of Emperor Yingzong of Ming Dynasty (in 1648 AD), the tomb was reconstructed. Later, it’s being reconstructed, repaired and expanded in different times in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Kaifeng Xylograph New Year Picture Factory, Muban Nianhua Chang

Xylograph New Year Picture Factory is located in Zhuxian Town of Henan Province. Zhuxian Town is a famous New Year Pictures producer of Henan Province in central China. The town is 23 kilometers from Kaifeng and was established by a famous general, Zhu Hai of the Wei State during the Warring States Period (475-221BC). In the period from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to the mid of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Zhuxian Town was one of the four most famous towns in China. Among China’s four most famous New Year Picture producers, Zhuxian is the oldest (the other three being Yangliuqing in Tianjin, Wuqiang City in Hebei Province and Weifang in Shandong Province). In the nearby Zhaozhuang Village, there is a workshop run by Zhang Tingxu and his family. Inside the beautiful arch gate of Zhang family’s house, Zhang and his family were all busily involved in the printing of New Year Pictures. They planned to produce 100,000 pieces of New Year Pictures before the Spring Festival arrives.
