Qingdao Mingxia Cave, Mingxia Dong

Mingxia Cave is located on the mountainside of south Kunlun Mountain, Mount Laoshan in Qingdao, Shandong. Ascending the mountain from the foothill through 1 kilometer path, you will reach the cave entrance. You may also ride the Tai Qing skyrocket. This cave was opened by Jin Dadin in the year 1166. The three characters of “Ming Xiadong” engraved in the cave was written by calligrapher, Wang Din of Qing Dynasty. It was said the original cave was big and spacious. The Taoist priest, Sun Ziyang from Ming Dynasty once resided here. In clear Kangxi Dynasty, it suffered from striking by lightning and most probably falls underground. The huge megalith on the east of the cave still remained and engraved with the topic “the half day rosy cloud”. In front of cave are even cliffs like platform. Overlooking the sea from here, you will see the vast empty Mongolia. Looking under the cliff is vertical and horizontal gull. Mount Laoshan’s beautiful scenery “Ming Xiasan” was namely this. Following the trail behind the cave and passed Xuanzhen cave, you may reach Kunlun Mountains (commonly known as Beidading). The cave is gloomy, profound, meandering and unexpectedly amounted to 2 kilometers leading to the summit. Eventually there is a terminus with a crack and can only hold 1 person sideways and is also called one day thread. After passing the gloomy area, you will see the light where you are already outside the summit. On this road is the company of bats. Upon getting out, your body might be full of bat’s excrement.

Qingdao Longtan Waterfall, Longtan Pubu

Longtan waterfall is also known as Yulong waterfall. It is located at the upstream of Bashui River in South Lao Mountain in Qingdao of Shandong Province. The distance from north is approximately 1 kilometer away from Shangqing Palace. The area is surrounded by cliffs. Bashui River flows along, about 20 meters high with more than 10 meters wide precipices hanging down, spurting bead, as if the jade dragon in the air. The waterfall falls several meters and clashes with the cliff and the score stock falls into in the deep pool. The water is blue and cold and clear enough to see the river floor. There is a huge stone carved with “Longtan waterfall” nearby. After heavy rain, the mountain torrent storm soars and howls, therefore it got the title of “Longtan spurting rain”.

Qingdao Shangqing Palace, Shangqing Gong, QD

Shangqing Palace is located in southeast of Lao Mountain in Qingdao of Shandong Province and northweast of Taiqing Palace. This palace was originally located on the mountain and known as the Laoshan temple. It was said that Zheng Kangcheng of Han Dynasty set up tent and taught students here. Zheng Kangcheng was the apprentice of Kong Zi during Zheng Yuan 72nd generation of spring and autumn Period. He was also the one propagating Kong Zi’s theory and was extremely learned. It was rebuilt at the beginning of Song Dynasty and was given the name “Shangqing” by Emperor Taizong. It was later washed away by the mountain torrent. In Yuan Dade year, Taoist priest Li Zhiming from Huashan sect reconstructed the building which is in today’s location. It was repaired in all dynasties.

The Taoist temple was all surrounded by hills, beautiful scenery of water and plants, making the environment serene and secluded. In front of the palace are gingko and several hundred years antique of peony. Taoist priest, Qiu Chuji of Yuan Dynasty lived here where his epigraph still remained. The most famous poem is “Sapphire Document” of which seven lines were the most well-known. Qiu Chuji’s tomb was located within the first half mile of the palace containing clothing without the corpse; its old name was Qiuzufen. In addition, there are two bridges called Yingxian and Chaozhen. It is interesting with the bamboo shades, gentle breeze, water sound and walking pavement. The Shengshui spring flows from the Bie Mountain stone, with sweet and clear. It is one of the famous springs in Mount Laoshan.

Qingdao Christian Church, Jidu Jiaotang

Christian Church was completed on 23 October 1910. It was a famous religious construction in Qingdao, Shandong. It was situated at Jiangsu Road 15. To its east part is the beautiful Xinhao Mountain Park where the scenery is extremely beautiful. The Christ church is a typical ancient German castle type construction. It is composed by the bell tower and the assembly hall. The bell tower’s height is 39.10 meters. Upon ascending the tower, you may watch the beautiful landscape. There is a giant clock on top of the bell tower. The assembly hall is spacious and bright and can accommodate thousands of audiences. The 18 meters high hall was divided into 2 levels on both sides. The decoration is extremely elegant, giving one a sacred feeling. The square in front of the church is smooth and broad. The place is fully surrounded with shaded trees with western style constructions scattered within its periphery like cafe, Movie Theater and so on which serves to even enhance the grandeurs of the church. It is now opened for public sightseeing. There is also the Youth Christian Association for tourists to gather and accommodation.

Qingdao Beijiushui Scenic Area, Beijiushui

Beijingshui Scenic Area (North Nine Twists) is located on the upper side of the White Sand River (Baisha He), Lao Mountain Qingdao. There is river originates from the north side of the Lao Mountain. The river flows through the foot of the Lao Mountain and the river has nine twists. By walking along the river, you will pass through the nine twists, and thus the name Beijiushui (North Nine Twists) was called. The Beijiushui can be divided into three parts—the Neijiushui (Innner Nine Twists), Waijiushui (Outer Nine Twists) and Nanjiushui (South Nine Twists), among which the Waijiushui (Outer Nine Twists) is the most famous. The Waijiushui (Outer Nine Twists) is also named Beijiushui (North Nine Twists).
The Beijiushui with its length of about 3km long is from Beijiushui Sanatorium to Scale Waterfall (Yulin Pubu). The Scale Waterfall is so named because of the shape of spray which looks much like scales. The sound of the Scale Waterfall sounds like that of flood tide. The waterfall has three twists and pours into two ponds where the upper pond is smaller. The pond is named Blue Vat Bay (Diangang Wan) because of its vat shape and blue water. The lower pond is bigger and is more than 30 meters in perimeter. A pavilion is located at the west side of Scale Waterfall for tourists to enjoy the beauty and grandness of the waterfall. There are many stone gorges below the Blue Vat Bay (Diangang Wan). Two rocks which are more than 30 meters high, stood face to face and the water flows speedily through the gorges. If you stand at the foot of the gorges and look up, you’ll feel if the gorges were leaning and is breathtaking. There are many other scenic spots such as the Old Monk Peak (Laoseng Feng), Jizhua Pond (Jizhua Tan), Feilai Rock (Feilai Shi), Jinping Rock (Jinping Yan), and so on.

Qingdao Luxun Park, Luxun Gongyuan

Lu Xun Park was named in commemoration of Chinese literary arena great master, Mr. Lu Xun for previously studying here. It is the first scenic spot in the spring bay scenic area of Qingdao. Regardless of strolling in the winding path along the garden or sitting above the reef to view tide, Lu Xun Park is the best destination. Along the main entrance under the stones, Lu Xun’s cast stood erected in the circular flowered furrow. The stones on two sides of the pines become the platoon and the front surface of the reef faces the sea. On the reef is the red soldier with gray base and appear splendid under the compliment from the sea. The reef base is covered with the hard oyster, the inner Sha Ting is scattered with each kind of shells. Tourists often too busy to think along the trail strolls and normally goes through the reef clump to pick up the bright colors shell and seaweed flushes by the ocean waves. The Lu Xun Park may be labeled as Qingdao’s richest characteristic seashore park with primary specialized domestic breeding and exhibition of marine life museum. It is a marine product museum, as well as the China’s first marine aquarium and marine life laboratory. Qingdao aquarium is situated in the park.
