The Temple of the Town Gods is located on the Fangbang Road. It was said that the Town God is a god who is responsible for protecting the city in Taoism. The head of Shanghai County Zhang Shouyue built the Temple of the Town Gods in the early 15 century. Since then, the Temple of the Town Gods has been destroyed several times and the current temple was built in 1926. During the war of resistance against Japanese invasion and the World Wall Ⅱ, local merchants built a new Temple of the Town Gods in the area between Lianyun Road and Jinling West Road. In order to distinguish the two temples, the former one is known as the Old Temple of the Town Gods. The Old Temple of the Town Gods and the nearby Yu Garden are not only famous as tourist site, but also one of the most popular shopping center.
